‘CROWNS, CURRIES AND CRICKET’ is a series of documentary films exploring, through two culturally significant stories, the bond India has with the UK. The questions: why and how it began; what the link really means today; what makes it thrive and grow; what does that bond mean to the people of the two nations today?
26-year-old, UK born-and-raised Ash is fulfilling his family duty of immersing his fathers ashes into the Ganges. His personal journey explores the symbiosis of the UK and India and the competitive, if sometimes concealed, admiration and respect that has always existed between the people of two inextricably linked nations.
Ash is mixed race Anglo-Indian, born in the UK. When his uncle informed him it was his duty to return his fathers ashes something struck him: “Am I Indian? What does this mean to me?”
This is about a marriage of two nations told through the eyes of two young men on parallel but contrasting voyages. Whilst the participants in this matrimony may not have started as equals, as they grew and developed with each other, they developed a unique and special partnership.
